bioXclusters Plus is a European initiative that unites four leading biotechnology and health clusters in Europe: Biocat (Catalonia, Spain); Bio M (Bavaria, Germany); bioPmed (Piemonte, Italy); Lyonbiopole (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France). Together, this alliance represents 3,300 SMEs, mainly in the fields of personalised medicine, oncology , cardiovascular , inflammatory and infectious diseases . It is supported by the European Union's COSME programme and is part of the European Cluster Collaboration Platform initiative.

bioXclusters Plus has one single overarching aim: to support the competitiveness of SMEs by facilitating internationalization and the creation of a single European entry point for global players in the life sciences and health sector . It shares best practices with its extensive network of members, stimulating synergies and innovation, and offers key advice, information and a contact point for company entry into strategic, international markets. bioXclusters plus has prioritized the following areas in healthcare for development and support: personalised medicine, regenerative therapies , digital health , and nutrition . Within an environment of open innovation and shared knowledge and contacts, the consortium will promote SME development and market expansion in line with global medical needs.

The strategic alliance has had significant international success since its creation in 2012. Visits by biotech experts from Brazil, China and USA and three fact finding missions to these strategic markets with SME partners led to the signing of six Memorandums of Understanding. In total, 11 international agreements between European SMEs and business partners in these strategic markets were signed in phase 1 of the project.

bioXclusters Plus has now extended its scope to include missions and activities to other new strategic markets, such as Australia or Japan, and is open to explore further win-win collaborations overseas building gateways to targeted markets. Moreover, the 4 cluster organizations which form part of the Council of European BioRegions (CEBR) and the European Cluster Collaboration Platform will provide further opportunity for SME collaboration and growth through a cross-sectorial approach.

Project duration: 01/01/2016 – 31/12/2017
